Welcome Michael Halstead

Michael Halstead joins the Yocto Project as of January 1 as the Yocto
Project's first employee through the auspices of the Linux
Foundation. Michael has already been instrumental in providing system
administration services for us for the past six months as an Intel
contractor.

AB Membership Update

To recap the December meetings, AB membership is made up of two
tiers. Gold members join for $45k per year, and each organization gets
one vote on the AB. Silver members join for $10k per year and share a
vote amongst themselves. John Cherry from Mentor Graphics has agreed
to organize the Silver members. Membership dues are debated in the
fall meetings and decided and voted for each fiscal year before the
last meeting in December. New members may join on quarterly boundaries
to make pro-rating their membership easier, and all new members must
be voted by acclamation in by the Advisory Board. (Acceptance may also
be noted by a lack of disapprobation.)

As 2012 begins, the project has three Gold members (Texas Instruments,
Wind River, and Intel) and two Silver members (Mentor Graphics,
MontaVista).

Huawei is working with Mike Woster in the process of finalizing their
Yocto Project Advisory Board membership. There are also a few other
organizations who have expressed strong interest in joining the AB
over the next few months.

We have lost one AB member - Timesys. The AB thanks them for their
participation in 2011, and reminds them that they would be welcome to
return to the board at any time.

One member from 2011 - Dell - still has an unknown status. Sean Hudson
has agreed to follow up with them.

Finance update

Linux Foundation is preparing invoices for Q1. All AB members will be
invoiced for dues according to their membership level. Dues are
invoiced quarterly, as we agreed in the 14-Dec-2011 meeting.

Advocacy update

ELC is fast approaching. All member organizations who are submitting
presentations must do so by end of day Friday, 6-Jan-2012.

The Advocacy team is preparing a one-day Yocto Project Developer
Summit, with both a beginner and intermediate/advanced track,
currently set prior to ELC - the most likely day is Tuesday,
14-Feb-2012. Linux Foundation is assisting, and will provide two
50-person rooms, one "theater" style and one "lab" style, as well as
shared access to a keynote room for up to 100 people. All AB member
organizations are encouraged to participate in any way they
can. Philip (OE) has volunteered to help, and Sean (MG) has
volunteered to find someone at Mentor to join the fun.

BSP Summit(s) are also being planned. Mentor Graphics has volunteered
space at their Fremont, CA facility, and will canvass AB members for
appropriate dates to pursue.

Community update

A major website overhaul is under way with the assistance of a design
agency based in Portland, OR. All members are encouraged to help with
design review - contact Jefro if you can help.

A limited number of passes are available to conferences for Yocto
Project community members. In addition, the budget contains a line
item for travel assistance for one to two community members per
quarter to attend a conference. If you know a community member who
needs assistance in attending an important conference, please contact
Jefro for help.
