Re: insmod - huawei E3372h kernel module

Zoltan Kerenyi Nagy

I don have a recipie for /etc/modules

To my understanding this order will cause the load:
KERNEL_MODULE_AUTOLOAD += "ncm_driver"KERNEL_MODULE_PROBECONF += "ncm_driver"cdc_ncm = "options ncm_driver iProduct=USB_Host_Driver_for_Network_Control_Model iManufacturer=NCM"
KERNEL_MODULE_AUTOLOAD += "wmc_device_managment"KERNEL_MODULE_PROBECONF += "wmc_device"cdc_wdm = "options wmc_device iProduct=USB_CDC_WCM_Device_Management iManufacturer=WMC"
KERNEL_MODULE_AUTOLOAD += "lte"KERNEL_MODULE_PROBECONF += "lte"huawei_cdc_ncm = "options lte iProduct=E3372h iManufacturer=Huawei"

As far as I understand the KERNEL_MODULE_AUTOLOAD directive will populate the /etc/modules file, however, after bitbaking, on the device there is no /etc/modules file or folder but another folder:

root@barix-ipam400:~# ls /lib/modules/4.10.0/extra/
cdc-ncm.ko         cdc-wdm.ko         hello.ko           huawei_cdc_ncm.ko

Yocto Project Newcomer & Unassigned Bugs - Help Needed

Stephen Jolley

All,

The triage team is starting to try and collect up and classify bugs which a newcomer to the project would be able to work on in a way which means people can find them. They're being listed on the triage page under the appropriate heading:

https://wiki.yoctoproject.org/wiki/Bug_Triage#Newcomer_Bugs  Also please review: https://www.openembedded.org/wiki/How_to_submit_a_patch_to_OpenEmbedded and how to create a bugzilla account at: https://bugzilla.yoctoproject.org/createaccount.cgi

The idea is these bugs should be straight forward for a person to help work on who doesn't have deep experience with the project.  If anyone can help, please take ownership of the bug and send patches!  If anyone needs help/advice there are people on irc who can likely do so, or some of the more experienced contributors will likely be happy to help too.

Also, the triage team meets weekly and does its best to handle the bugs reported into the Bugzilla. The number of people attending that meeting has fallen, as have the number of people available to help fix bugs. One of the things we hear users report is they don't know how to help. We (the triage team) are therefore going to start reporting out the currently 336 unassigned or newcomer bugs.

We're hoping people may be able to spare some time now and again to help out with these.  Bugs are split into two types, "true bugs" where things don't work as they should and "enhancements" which are features we'd want to add to the system.  There are also roughly four different "priority" classes right now, “3.2”, “3.3, "3.99" and "Future", the more pressing/urgent issues being in "3.2" and then “3.3”.

Please review this link and if a bug is something you would be able to help with either take ownership of the bug, or send me (sjolley.yp.pm@...) an e-mail with the bug number you would like and I will assign it to you (please make sure you have a Bugzilla account).  The list is at: https://wiki.yoctoproject.org/wiki/Bug_Triage_Archive#Unassigned_or_Newcomer_Bugs

Thanks,

[meta-browser] Chromium build Dependency to native libatomic

Yi Fan Yu

Hi,

Is there a fix/patch to chromium-x11 (meta-browser) failing to build `yocto_native/brotli`.

This happens on Centos 8 where libatomic is not necessarily present on the host.

as far as i know, libatomic is not listed as a host prereq for building chromium or any yocto builds.

Issue is described more in details in

https://github.com/OSSystems/meta-browser/issues/431

---

Specifically to khem:

There was a discussion thread on yocto's IRC, was there a resolution other than a manual installation of the library on the system host?

https://www.yoctoproject.org/irc/%23yocto.2020-10-29.log.html

```
khem    kernelsandals: yeah i see, so its using clang-native with lld, so one option would be to try add -fuse-ld=gold to HOST_LDFLAGS    19:51
khem    another option might be to add -L/usr/lib    19:51
khem    but clang++ should have been able to find it if its installed in /usr/lib    19:52
khem    can you try a simple testcase with clang++ from recipe-sysroot-native with latomic something like clang++ hello.cpp -latomic    19:54
khem    and see if that works
```

Hi Vijay,

I hate to be rude but this is terrible advice. That recipe likely has
dependencies on other recipes and before you know it you'd be
assembling a completely untested mess of copy & pasted recipes with no
clean upgrade path.

I recommend looking at the project documentation, watch Josef's

maybe check out a book or work through a tutorial. Once you understand
the layer system you'll see that it's easy to add the required layers
properly.

Here is the exact loading order, outlined in target's /etc/modules :

debian@arm:~$ cat /etc/modules
# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.

cdc_ncm
cdc_wdm
huawei_cdc_ncm

You need to, using YOCTO recipes, to modify /etc/modules file to look
as shown above, while bitbaking the target.

Hi Folks,

Is it possible to create a recipe file with devtool?

There is gonna be a file not found error:

However when I wget the same source, the c file downloads correctly.

Do you have any idea?

Any help or hint is appreciated.

Hi Vijay,

I hate to be rude but this is terrible advice. That recipe likely has
dependencies on other recipes and before you know it you'd be
assembling a completely untested mess of copy & pasted recipes with no
clean upgrade path.

I recommend looking at the project documentation, watch Josef's
