Oh, forgot to mention here, that you should probably be using Denzil,
instead of Danny or 'master'.

$ hob
FATAL: Gtk+, PyGtk and PyGobject are required to use Hob,
You have Gtk+ 2.20.1 and PyGtk 2.17.0.

$ sudo apt-get install python-gobject
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
python-gobject is already the newest version.
Python-gobject seems fine, Gtk seems fine (you have 2.20.1, Hob wants
higher than 2.20.0), which leaves python-gtk2 version 2.17.0 on your
system. Hob wants a version higher than 2.21.0.

You won't find it there because it isn't specific to the kern-tools,
what you see there is a small wrapper on top of the kernel.bbclass
defconfig handling, with the same end result. So standard
yocto/oe-core docs apply here.

I also forgot to mention that Darren did cover defconfigs in the
yocto kernel  docs that were put together for the 1.4 release (I
think they were posted here), so there's better / additional
coverage upcoming!
ah, i will go back and check those out, thanks. just trying to

at the moment, the only mention of that task is in the reference

yocto-kernel-tools

Rick Yang <Rick.Yang@...>

Hi ,

We have a linux release base on yocto, and we want to use yocto-kernel-tools to manage kernel configuration fragments, instead of the old method. So we want to know, when poky will use yocto-kernel-tools to manage the kernel ? Is there a plan?

Thanks!

This is probably a very stupid question, but I don't understand how to set the hostname of the system that I'm building (I'm building a 'core-image-minimal'), unless I

A) write a /etc/hostname file to the image, or
B) write a script that updates the hostname during startup

The installed (/etc/hostname) file is created & installed in the base-files recipe, but I don't understand how to set/use the hostname-variable in that recipe so that it becomes what I want it to be (unless I start editing that recipe ....).

Is there a way to modify the hostname from my 'local.conf' file?

The hostname.sh script in recipes-core/initscripts will be later modified to regard the kernel command line parameters. You can then specify your hostname in kernel command line when booting.

why does build appliance page mention OVF files?

Robert P. J. Day

reading this for the first time:

https://www.yoctoproject.org/documentation/build-appliance-manual

and in the early bulleted list of terminology, there's a reference to
OVF files, even though none of the rest of the page makes any use of
OVF files, and the page suggests that the downloadable appliance
requires vmware player since virtualbox by default uses OVF files but
there is no OVF file in that zip file.

thoughts?

There doesn't seem to be a denzil branch for meta-java and it's likely the
error you're receiving is because the master branch of meta-java is
incompatible with the denzil release. I would suggest updating to the
danny
release, or alternatively you'll need to modify meta-java to be compatible
with denzil (i.e. you'll have to match indenting in python functions such
as
populate_packages_prepend).
Paul, Thanks for all help.

I did what you told, I created a new project with all metas in danny branch:
meta-fsl-arm$ git branch
* local/origin/danny
master

meta-openembedded$ git branch
* local/origin/danny
master

poky$ git branch
* local/origin/danny
master

meta-java$ git branch
* master

In Local config I changed just the machine for
MACHINE ?= "imx28evk"

And added the lines needed for java

PREFERRED_PROVIDER_virtual/java-native = "jamvm-native"
PREFERRED_PROVIDER_virtual/javac-native = "ecj-bootstrap-native"

PREFERRED_VERSION_openjdk-6-jre = "6b24-1.11.5"
PREFERRED_VERSION_icedtea6-native = "1.8.11"

I have changed my bblayes for:

BBLAYERS ?= " \

/media/dados/prjs/imx-JAVA/philinux/meta-openembedded/meta-oe \

Hello,
The command bitbake -v xfce-nm-image fails for the pandaboard but does create a kernel (uImage-3.1.0-r1a-pandaboard-20121222162546.bin). Build information is below for angstrom and meta-ti.

In the file /media/POKY/build122112_panda/poky/meta-ti/recipes-kernel/linux/linux-omap4_3.1.0.bb
I see the following
MACHINE_KERNEL_PR_append = "a"
and in /media/POKY/build122112_panda/poky/meta-ti/conf/machine/include/ompa4.inc
I see the folowing
# Increase this everytime you change something in the kernel
MACHINE_KERNEL_PR = "r1"

Why is the  linux-omap4-3.1.0-r0 being downloaded instead of linux-omap4-3.1.0-r1a?
Thanks any help will be appreciated.

kernel manual seems to make no mention of "defconfig"

Robert P. J. Day

poking around kern-tools for purpose of documenting some stuff and
ran across this in "updateme":

split_command_line_objects() {
command_line_values=$@

for v in $command_line_values; do
v_base=`basename $v`
case $v_base in
*.scc) migrate_feature $v
;;
*.cfg) migrate_cfg $v
;;
*.patch|*.diff) migrate_patch $v
;;
defconfig) migrate_cfg $v;;
*) ;;
esac
done
}

AFAICT, there is no mention of a possible "defconfig" entry anywhere
in the current yocto kernel manual.

[Package Report System]Upgrade recipes name list

Yocto Project Package Report System <package-reporting@...>

This mail was sent out by Package Report System.
This message list those recipes which need to be upgraded. If maintainers believe some of them needn't to upgrade this time, they can fill in RECIPE_NO_UPDATE_REASON_pn-"xxx" in upstream_tracking files to ignore this recipe remainder until newer upstream version was detected.
Example:
RECIPE_NO_UPDATE_REASON_pn-"xxx" = "Not upgrade to 2.0 because the new version is unstable"
You can check the detail information at http://packages.yoctoproject.org/upgradepkgname

[meta-qt3][PATCH v2] qt-x11-free-native: Use internal 3rdparty libpng header

Saul Wold <sgw@...>

Ensure the 3rdparty version of libpng headers are found first, otherwise
the sysroot libpng15 header are found which causes a mis-match issue.
