+Go 1.10's build tool now uses content-based hashes to
+determine when something should be built or re-built.
+This same mechanism is used to maintain a built-artifact
+cache for speeding up builds.
+
+However, the hashes it generates include information that
+doesn't work well with OE, nor with using a shared runtime
+library.
+
+First, it embeds path names to source files, unless
+building within GOROOT. This prevents the building
+of a package in GOPATH for later staging into GOROOT.
+
+This patch adds support for the environment variable
+GOPATH_OMIT_IN_ACTIONID. If present, path name
+embedding is disabled.
+
+Second, if cgo is enabled, the build ID for cgo-related
+packages will include the current value of the environment
+variables for invoking the compiler (CC, CXX, FC) and
+any CGO_xxFLAGS variables. Only if the settings used
+during a compilation exactly match, character for character,
+the values used for compiling runtime/cgo or any other
+cgo-enabled package being imported, will the tool
+decide that the imported package is up-to-date.
+
+This is done to help ensure correctness, but is overly
+simplistic and effectively prevents the reuse of built
+artifacts that use cgo (or shared runtime, which includes
+runtime/cgo).
+
+This patch filters out all compiler flags except those
+beginning with '-m'. The default behavior can be restored
+by setting the CGO_PEDANTIC environment variable.
+

+Change the dist tool to allow for OE-style cross-
+and cross-canadian builds:
+
+ - command flags --host-only and --target only are added;
+ if one is present, the other changes mentioned below
+ take effect, and arguments may also be specified on
+ the command line to enumerate the package(s) to be
+ built.
+
+ - for OE cross builds, go_bootstrap is always built for
+ the current build host, and is moved, along with the supporting
+ toolchain (asm, compile, etc.) to a separate 'native_native'
+ directory under GOROOT/pkg/tool.
+
+ - go_bootstrap is not automatically removed after the build,
+ so it can be reused later (e.g., building both static and
+ shared runtime).
+
+Note that for --host-only builds, it would be nice to specify
+just the "cmd" package to build only the go commands/tools,
+the staleness checks in the dist tool will fail if the "std"
+library has not also been built. So host-only builds have to
+build everything anyway.
+

+The go build tool normally rebuilds whatever it detects is
+stale. This can be a problem when GOROOT is intended to
+be read-only and the go runtime has been built as a shared
+library, since we don't want every application to be rebuilding
+the shared runtime - particularly in cross-build/packaging
+setups, since that would lead to 'abi mismatch' runtime errors.
+
+This patch prevents the install and linkshared actions from
+installing to GOROOT unless overridden with the GOROOT_OVERRIDE
+environment variable.
+

+Go 1.10's build tool now uses content-based hashes to
+determine when something should be built or re-built.
+This same mechanism is used to maintain a built-artifact
+cache for speeding up builds.
+
+However, the hashes it generates include information that
+doesn't work well with OE, nor with using a shared runtime
+library.
+
+First, it embeds path names to source files, unless
+building within GOROOT. This prevents the building
+of a package in GOPATH for later staging into GOROOT.
+
+This patch adds support for the environment variable
+GOPATH_OMIT_IN_ACTIONID. If present, path name
+embedding is disabled.
+
+Second, if cgo is enabled, the build ID for cgo-related
+packages will include the current value of the environment
+variables for invoking the compiler (CC, CXX, FC) and
+any CGO_xxFLAGS variables. Only if the settings used
+during a compilation exactly match, character for character,
+the values used for compiling runtime/cgo or any other
+cgo-enabled package being imported, will the tool
+decide that the imported package is up-to-date.
+
+This is done to help ensure correctness, but is overly
+simplistic and effectively prevents the reuse of built
+artifacts that use cgo (or shared runtime, which includes
+runtime/cgo).
+
+This patch filters out all compiler flags except those
+beginning with '-m'. The default behavior can be restored
+by setting the CGO_PEDANTIC environment variable.

+Change the dist tool to allow for OE-style cross-
+and cross-canadian builds:

+ - command flags --host-only and --target only are added;
+ if one is present, the other changes mentioned below
+ take effect, and arguments may also be specified on
+ the command line to enumerate the package(s) to be
+ built.
+
+ - for OE cross builds, go_bootstrap is always built for
+ the current build host, and is moved, along with the supporting
+ toolchain (asm, compile, etc.) to a separate 'native_native'
+ directory under GOROOT/pkg/tool.
+
+ - go_bootstrap is not automatically removed after the build,
+ so it can be reused later (e.g., building both static and
+ shared runtime).
+
+Note that for --host-only builds, it would be nice to specify
+just the "cmd" package to build only the go commands/tools,
+the staleness checks in the dist tool will fail if the "std"
+library has not also been built. So host-only builds have to
+build everything anyway.
+

+The go build tool normally rebuilds whatever it detects is
+stale. This can be a problem when GOROOT is intended to
+be read-only and the go runtime has been built as a shared
+library, since we don't want every application to be rebuilding
+the shared runtime - particularly in cross-build/packaging
+setups, since that would lead to 'abi mismatch' runtime errors.
+
+This patch prevents the install and linkshared actions from
+installing to GOROOT unless overridden with the GOROOT_OVERRIDE
+environment variable.
+
+Adapted to Go 1.13 from patches originally submitted to
+the meta/recipes-devtools/go tree by

Hi all

I'd like to install my python3 application in a custom folder with all local packages and data.


The source code folder has this tree


./myapp/__main__.py

./package/__init__.py

./package/pkg.py


I manage the application by myapp_1.0.bb recipe.

I'd like the myapp_1.0.ipk package contains


/home/apps/myapp/__main__.py

/home/apps/package/__init__.py

/home/apps/package/pkg.py


I try setup.py and  inherit setuptools3 in my myapp_git.bb but 'packages' is installed under python system folder.


There is a way to customize the path of python package installation?

I think the best way out for you is to set up a container with a supported older distribution. Usually you need an older gcc version from the host machine, so the container will have that.

Hello,

so I'm a bit at a loss. I admit, I've not yet been using Yocto for a long time. I'm trying to use base-utils as provided by packagegroup-core-base-utils to have a more full featured set of base utils instead of busybox. It all builds just fine, however, whatever I do (using dunfell), it ends up with a kernel panic during boot.

I added the following to local.conf on a clean clone of poky:

INIT_MANAGER="systemd"

IMAGE_FSTYPES="live"

PREFERRED_PROVIDER_base-utils = "packagegroup-core-base-utils"
VIRTUAL-RUNTIME_base-utils = "packagegroup-core-base-utils"
VIRTUAL-RUNTIME_base-utils-hwclock = "util-linux-hwclock"
VIRTUAL-RUNTIME_base-utils-syslog = ""

Does anyone have any idea how to get this to work?

This should be done right after the git checkout. It's better to ensure what you build is clean that try to ensure the next oneto build has a clean env. Especially since checkouts can dirty the git repo I think (I've had this issue multiple times when switching between kernel branches far enough from one another).

Also git reset --hard is not enough. I use git clean -ffdx instead usually. Didn't have a problem with this one for a while now.

Building yocto image for RPi CM4 #raspberrypi

Advice on working with Yocto and Raspberry Pi CM4 Lite would be helpful.

I recently got my hands on with CM4 and now I want to build Yocto image with u-boot as bootloader. I have few doubts before I start the build.

  1. Which machine to use in local.conf file? In the meta-raspberrypi there is no specific machine for CM4 https://github.com/agherzan/meta-raspberrypi/tree/master/conf/machine. Will the "raspberrypi4-64" and "raspberrypi4" also work for CM4? As per my understanding the Raspberry Pi 4 and CM4 are mostly the same except for the device tree and drivers. Which device tree will work with RPi CM4? Do I need to generate them separately for CM4?
  2. Since I have CM4 lite, there is no on board eMMC. I am using custom IO board and it has SD card slot. I can boot from SD card instead. Do I need to set anything specific for CM4 to work in my image recipe or local.conf? Is it same as booting RPi 4 from uSD card?

My intention is to use RPi CM4 for software updates using RAUC.

Can anyone please let me about these? This would help me to get started.

I'm going to bite the bullet with meta-linux-mainline and rename the
master branch to "dev" this week to see what happens.
The layer index does already support this, it's just not exposed (at the time

worth worrying about.) So at the moment an admin can set an alternative branch
name. It would not be hard to expose it through the UI for layer maintainers
though.

Hi folks

I've been looking into a couple of compiler flags for hardening that I think we
might want to consider enabling by default in security-flags.inc:


1) -fstack-clash-protection

This option was introduced to gcc 8.x and provides protection against the
stack clash vulnerability:

It has been enabled in some Linux distributions already (e.g. Ubuntu, Fedora).


2) -z noexecstack (or alternative mitigations)

gcc will enable an executable stack under a few different circumstances - see

I've written a check that we could add to insane.bbclass that warns/errors on
binaries with an executable stack. Does this seem reasonable to have?
The other possibility is we add -Wl,-z,noexecstack to LDFLAGS and then see
what breaks, but unfortunately issues are likely only going to show up when
the program crashes at runtime, and also it will stop the aforementioned check
from working.


Any opinions?
