I did some testing, and could not reproduce the problem.
I then realized that as the sh link is managed by ALTERNATIVES mechanism, it will always point to bash instead of busybox.

Partly correct. To add more info, native is basically intended for host tools that should be placed into the native/host sysroot. Please don't disregard that.

meta-webos-ports is fork of meta-webos, so duplicates between these 2
are expected.
Also meta-webos master branch is compatible only with 1.4 dylan release,
