I’ll answer my own question. It seem ROOTFS_POSTPROCESS_COMMAND or ROOTFS_POSTINSTALL_COMMAND is the way to go.

Ok, I got it working now.
Just create a function that does what you want, e.g.:
function fix_my_rootfs() {
echo "foo"
}
Then run this function from ROOTFS_POSTPROCESS_COMMAND,

export. But that doesn't mean it is immediately wrong, applications that
know what they are doing can look at headers
